Kick Cancer
Into Touch - Touch Rugby Tournament Saturday 23 August 2008
The Annual Tim
Shepard Touch Rugby Tournament kicks off at the Stade Boy Konen in
Cessange hosted by Farady Clark, on Saturday 23 August.
Dragons for Breakfast have been invited to have a stand where
will have various activities for children including our ever popular
baby Dragons.
As in previous
years, the tournament is open to teams of 10 players of all ability and
fitness levels and as usual there is plenty to entertain players and
spectators alike – kids’ bouncy castle, bar, BBQ, champagne stand, cake
stall, raffle and sports massages.
Entry is 10 euro per player, but note that all teams entering the rugby
tournament must include at least one female player (and men are not
necessary).
The event raises money for the European Organisation for Research and
Treatment of Cancer as well as local charity Omega90, which offers
support and care to cancer sufferers and their families within the local
Luxembourg community.
All funds raised will be donated to the following cancer charities: from
the golf, the local Luxembourg Charity Omega90 which offers help at an
immediate level to cancer sufferers and their families in our local
environment in the form of a hospice; and the European Organisation for
Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), which conducts research within
Europe into improving the management of cancer to increase the survival
and improve the quality of life of sufferers). Both are very worthwhile
and important causes.
To register a team for any of the rugby, simply email
kickcancerintotouch@hotmail.com and send payment direct to the
following: IBAN LU67 0019 2055 8618 5000 Kick Cancer Into Touch ASBL,
stating which of the above events the payment is for.
So please come
along and enjoy a day out and help raise money for the Kick Cancer Into
Touch campaign as well as the street children in Colombia.

Once again a great success with over 50
kids attending many with their parents staying and joining in. The
kites were very popular with over 25 beautifully decorated with
wonderful designs including some with the owners name in Japanese text.
The Japanese theme being additionally promoted by the presence of plates
of Sushi kindly donated by our good friend Chazuko. This time we
also had a very generous donation of Indian food from Raju from the
New
Delhi restaurant. We should also like to thank everyone who
also contributed with cakes, snacks, and drinks.
We should, in particular, like to
thanks Diego, who has attended every Dragon day, and is now moving to
Italy. Even with his leg in plaster (and in obvious discomfort)
Diego came and decorated a kite. We wish Diego and his family all
the very best, and hope they will come back and see us soon.
3rd Dragons
for Children Day
Dragons for Breakfast are proud to
announce our 3rd Dragons for Children Day, which will take place on
Saturday 14th June 2008 in Godbrange. As in the past we will hold
two sessions, 10:30-13:00 and 14:30-17:00. In addition to all our
usual activates you can also design your own ceramic picture
frame, make a huge Dragon collage, paint a baby Dragon, enter the
T-shirt painting competition, write your name in Japanese script, or
make a giant Dragon kite 5 meters long (this will charged in addition to
the standard fee to cover material costs).
The cost will be €15 for each
child per session, which will include 3 activities. There will be
an additional €12 charge for those children wishing to make a Dragon
kite to cover material costs. Any additional materials for more
than 3 activities will also be charged appropriately.
Activities are suitable for
children between 5-14, but we welcome all ages and encourage parents to
stay and help younger children. Refreshments are available, and
and donations are always welcome.
Places are limited therefore, book
early by calling +352 350 433 or +352 290 640. Last time the
places filled very quickly and we had to disappoint some children.
All proceeds will go towards
supporting our preferred charity
Let the Children Live,
which helps to support street children in Colombia.

and other works of art produced at Dragons for Children Day on 27th
October, have now been fired and ready for collection. Please call 350
433 to arrange for a suitable time for collection.
The Dragons for Children day raised
€600 for the Let the

help for street children in Colombia. This brings the total amount
donated this year to almost €6,000.
We
would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported
us and helped to raise this tremendous amount, particularly Nigel Rouse,
who ran the Route du Vin half marathon and raised over €2,500. The
Irish Club who contributed the
profits from their Guinness & Oyster evening, the
Black Stuff for holding a
Simpson’s quiz, the British Ladies Club,
Station.lu,
Ara City radio,
352, and all the kind people who have
given house room to a Dragon.
2nd
Dragons for Children Day update.

A big thank you to all our artists
and helpers for making this (our second) Dragons for Children Day a
massive success. Over 45 children and assorted parents braved the
autumnal temperatures to take part in the various activities on offer.
In addition to painting baby
Dragons (always a popular activity) the children (and sometimes the
parents) enjoyed making candle holders, smoking Dragons, creating
stencils, learning drawing techniques, and helping to create a giant
Dragon. Once again the creativity and talent of the Children shone
bright making an otherwise dull overcast day into a very rewarding day.
Thanks also to all of you who
brought the lovely cakes, sushi, and other goodies, which kept everyone
fed and watered throughout the day.
All those children who modelled
items from clay, we shall be firing these pieces once they are dry
enough to put in the kiln. This should take around three weeks
after which the firing process will take an additional week. We
hope to have all the pieces ready in around a month and will post
details here, so keep coming back for updates.
As ever thank you too to all the
people who helped us publicise the event, in particular Ben Andrews of
Ara City radio for the interview.
We matched the first Dragons for
Children day in raising over €700, which will be added to the donation
fund. We will be sending an additional donation very shortly and
will update the figure at the head of this page.
Thanks you all for making this
another resounding success. Keep telling your friends about us,
and let us know if we can help with your Christmas gifts.
Next Dragons for Children day
planned for June 2008. Any ideas and comments welcome.
We are proud
to announce our 2nd Dragons for Children Day - Saturday 27th October
Following
a very successful Dragons for Children Day held in June, we are proud to
announce our 2nd Dragons for Children Day to be held on Saturday 27th
October in Godbrange.
As last time we will hold two
sessions from 10:00-12:30 and 14:00-16:30. We will have all our
usual activities such as Dragon modelling in clay, painting clay Dragons
and painting on china.
Our activities for older children
will include:
-
Helping to make a giant
Dragon. This will be done in sections resulting in the Dragons
being about 2 meters in length
-
Drawing and painting Dragons in
different mediums.
-
Make a stencil for use on clay or
cloth
-
Our project with clay this time is to
use slabing or pinching techniques to make either an incense burner, a pot
or a candle holder.
We will also be holding a
competition to design a Dragon T-shirt. The winner will get free
entry to our next Dragons for Children Day, and a T-shirt with the
design printed on it.
The cost for each child will be
€15, which includes the materials for three activities. Any
additional materials eg. extra baby Dragons, portions of clay, T-shirts,
etc will be charged separately.
Places are limited therefore, book
early by calling +352 350 433 or +352 290 640. Last time the
places filled very quickly.
Tea and cakes will be available,
and any offering will be gratefully received. We will of course be
displaying our Dragons for sale, and will be happy to take your orders
for Christmas.

Guinness &
Oyster Evening - 20th October
The Irish Club of Luxembourg, in
association with the Black Stuff and Amarine restaurant held a
Guinness & Oyster evening on the Saturday 20th October to raise money
for us. The evening started at 18:00, with many braving the cold
temperatures to sample some wonderful Oysters provided by the Amarine
restaurant from the Auchan shopping centre and the Guinness (as ever)
provided by the Black Stuff. Some of those who stayed on after the
event saw a hard fought Rugby world cup
final eventually won by South Africa
The event was patronised by the
Embassy of Ireland, and we should like to thank Martin Burke the Irish
Ambassador who made time in his busy schedule to attend.
This is the first time such an
event has been held in Luxembourg, and we're sure it won't be the last.
Thanks to all of you who came and supported us and helped to raise over
€300.
Running for
Dragons -
Nigel Rouse - Route du Vin
Half
Marathon
30th September 2007
Well what a fantastic day!!
After some truly miserable weather
leading up Sunday, the sun shone on the the 1312 runners gathered in
Remich to run 21 Km.
Some days before the race Cliona
Hurley had designed, and had printed some commemorative T-Shirts in
honour of Nigel's run. Unknown to Nigel a core group of his
supporters met in Remich in the lead up to the event. Nigel was
asked to pose for a photo opportunity to be published on the website.
While facing the camera Nigel, his supporters gathered behind him, all
wearing the commemorative T-shirts. You can see that photo, and
all the others from the day
here.
Not only did Nigel complete the 21
Km, in 2:17:27 (a very respectable time), but has raised well over
€1,500, which his Dad Brian had a big hand in raising (final figures are
expected to be higher and will be published here in due course).
Once again to massive thank you to
Nigel, Cliona, Brian, and all the people who sponsored Nigel, from all
of the Dragons for Breakfast team.
Following a well earned
summer break Dragons for Breakfast will be participating in the
Tempus Medieval festival in Keorich
on Sunday 16th September. The market will be open between 10:00 -
18:00, and looks like it should be a lot of fun with activities for all
ages, and food and medieval entertainment. We will have a standing
exhibiting our Dragons as well as children's activities, such as Dragon
& shield painting, so come along with the family for a perfect end to
the Summer holidays, before school starts again.
The
Black Stuff Simpson's pub quiz -
Wednesday 8th August
We should like to thanks
all at the Black Stuff, in particular Gareth and Rose for organising and
running the Simpson's pub quiz on behalf of Dragons for Breakfast.
Thanks also to Phil and Cathy for providing real Duff beer and fresh
doughnuts for the prizes. The Dragons would like to thank all the
teams for making this event a great success and raising over €250.
Front page and feature in
352 - Thursday 19th July
We are very grateful to Duncan Roberts
of 352 for the front page and feature
issue of 352 on 19 July. The front page featured some of the
children who had come to collect their Dragons (made at the Dragons for
Children day) standing in front of our magnificent Dragon mural, which
is now mounted on our barn door, plus an article describing our work.
We are equally indebted to April
Bohem (formally of 352), whose interview
with Father Peter from Let
the Children Live was also featured in this issue.
Kunsthandwerkermarkt
Echternach
Sunday 15th July - Update
We have to admit from a sales point of
view this market was a bit of a disappointment. However, we
enjoyed the experience, and met lots of very friendly artists and
established valuable contacts for future events. We were also
featured in the Tagblat with a large picture of our Dragons.
Kunsthandwerkermarkt
Echternach
Sunday 15th July
Dragons for Breakfast will be present
at this is Art market, which is open to the public from 11:00 until
18:00 and has exhibitors from Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and Holland.
We will be exhibiting some of our larger Dragons as well as holding
activities for children.
Schlassfest - Schëndels (Schoenfels)
Sunday 8th July - Update
This was an altogether smaller and more
intimate festival than Rodemack, but the atmosphere was just great.
Plenty of good food, drink and music throughout the day, with the good
weather, as promised made this a thoroughly enjoyable day for
everyone.
We introduced a new activity for
the children, as well as painting Dragons the children could now choose
to decorate a shield in variety of designs and colours to create some
real works of art, which you can see
here.
Each colour and design has a
specific meaning in heraldry such as blue for loyalty & truth, red for
military fortitude & magnanimity, purple for royal majesty, sovereignty
& justice, and so on. The designs too signify certain
characteristics such as Dragon for most valiant defender of treasure,
Dolphin for charity and kind affection towards children, Horse shoe for
good luck and so on.
Once again the imagination of the
children produced some spectacular pieces.
Schlassfest - Schëndels (Schoenfels)
Sunday 8th July
You can find Schëndels (Schoenfells) on the Bridel -
Kopstal road in the direction of Mersch. This is an other Medieval
festival with lots of activities, music and food including a roast
suckling pig in the evening from around 18:30, followed by entertainment
provided by DJ Cooto late into the night until 24:00.
Dragons for Breakfast will be
there with our Dragons, as well as the ever popular Dragon painting for
the children. We have been told the weather is going to be good,
so come along and sample the sights and sounds of a medieval festival,
particularly for all those who missed the RodeMack medieval festival
and help us raise even more money for
Let the Children Live.
Rodemack Medieval
festival - Update
A massive thank you to everyone who
visited our stand at Rodemack. We sold several of our Dragons and
had lots of children who enjoyed painting some fabulous Dragons.
Although hard work, we had a great
weekend soaking in the atmosphere of an authentic Medieval village, with
all sorts of market traders, entertainment, music, and food, etc.
Fortunately the rain held off throughout the weekend, with only a couple
of light showers.
We should like to thank the
organisers, the village of Rodemack, all our supporters and helpers, in
particular Emily who came to help us on Sunday.
Rodemack Medieval
festival - 30 June to 1 July
Dragons for Breakfast plan to be there on both Saturday 30th and Sunday
the 1st and in addition to selling our Dragons we will have smaller
Dragons for children to paint.
Rodemack is a beautiful
medieval village just over the border in France If you go along
the rue de Thionville in the
direction Hesperange/Frisange, it is about 20 minutes drive into
France, for more information please see their
website which has details
about the village, the festival, and how to get there. Come and
enjoy the sights and sounds of a true Medieval Village, with plenty to
eat, drink, and do for all ages.
Please note that the market doesn't start until 17:00 on Saturday, but
goes on into the night, with many activities to keep everyone
entertained, and opens again on Sunday at 11:00.
We look forward to seeing you all
at the weekend.
Firstly a very big thank you to all the
helpers who helped us to make this (our first) Dragons for Children day
a huge success, especially.
Joey Adam our resident
artist, Jane Barclay for organising the clay modelling, also Lydie,
Georgina, Peita, Naomi, Rose, Sophie, Cali, Grace, Heather Carroll, and
all the parents who stayed to help out,
and last but certainly not the least all
the children, without who this day would not have been possible.
Both young and not so young, had a go
at the activities on offer, and produced some amazing pieces, as you can
see here.
Both the morning and afternoon
sessions were over subscribed. For the people we had to turn away
we will of course publish the date of the next Dragons day on the web
site.
For all those artists who modelled
a Dragon from clay, we are hoping to have these pieces fired and ready
for collection around 9 July. We will post any change to this
here, so keep coming back to visit us.
We should also like to thank all
our supporters who helped to publicise the event:
352
- Duncan Roberts has kindly agreed to run a front page feature issue for
us on 19 July so watch out for that.
Station.lu
- Thanks to Geoff Thompson and all at
station.lu for your support.
British Ladies Club
- Thanks to Tracy for offering to run follow up articles and your help
on the day.
ARA City radio
- Thanks to Ben Andrews, and Nick Weston for the interview.
We raised over €700 and will be
adding this to the donation fund.
THANK YOU ALL!!!!
Dragons for Children Day

will be two sessions from 10:00 - 13:30 & 14:00 - 17:30.

following activities per session:

or +352 290 640 or email
info@dragonsforbreakfast.com.
The price is €15 per child (5-14 years) per
session. There are a limited number of places per session so book
early to avoid disappointment, and tell all your friends who might also
like to come. You can download our poster
here and put
it up in your office, school, shop etc.
We will also have an exhibition of our Dragons for
you to peruse.
Most importantly, this is all to raise money for
Let the Children Live a
charity, which supports street children in Colombia.
We had a very successful day in Remich.
Thank you all of you who made it to support us. Remich was an
altogether bigger market than Itzig, and it was outdoors. We had
fantastic weather with the occasional gust of wind which threatened to
blow the tent away, but we managed to hang on to it.
We sold 12 Dragons of varying sizes, and
gave some budding artists the chance to paint their own Dragon to take
home with them (pictures here).
We added substantially to the
money raised in Itzig, and over €1,000 will be sent to Let the
Children Live.
Remich Arts & Hobby Market
The Dragons for Breakfast
team have been hard at work and now have many new Dragons to display in
Remich on Tuesday 1st May. The market will be held on Place Dr.
Fernand Kons in Remich.
In addition to our ceramic Dragons we
have expanded our range to include Dragon puppets, and will have some
smaller Dragons, which children can paint and take home.
We hope you will come and support
us so we can add to the €500 we raised at our first outing in Itzig.
Thank you to everyone who came to see us
in Itzig, and an extra big thanks to all those who bought a Dragon (or
two). We had a very successful fair, and sold over 15 Dragons, and
will be sending €500 as a first donation to Let
the Children Live. We will also be updating our
gallery page in the coming days to mark the Dragons which have been
sold, and add new Dragons as they become available. Keep looking
otherwise you might miss the Dragon for you.
We are now preparing for our next
exhibition which is scheduled for 1 May in Remich. Watch this
space for more details as they become available.
Please note: If any of the
Dragons you wanted have been sold, you can always ask us to make you
another one like it. Be aware though that the new Dragon will not
be exactly the same as the original (otherwise they wouldn't be unique),
but like a brother/sister, father/mother, etc.
News Flash!!
We will be present at the Hobby
Fair at the Cultural Centre in Itzig on Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th March 2007
from 14:00 to 18:00. We will be exhibiting
new and old Dragons. Why not drop by anytime and browse and/or
buy a Dragon or two. Not only will it be a great day out for the
family, but you can help the street children of Colombia by supporting
Let the Children Live.
